However, the ghostwriters who find the most success are the ones who have as much passion for their clients’ projects as they do their own. Challenges you’ll face as an eBook ghostwriter include:

  • Collaborating with your client and finding the balance between their desired content and your expertise as an author

Will I Get Any Credit for My Writing? The amount of recognition you receive for the work depends on your agreement. Some clients will require you to sign a non-disclosure agreement and agree to accept payment for the ghostwriting and never disclose that you had any part in it. Some clients will list you as an editor or co-author. Others will give you full credit as the ghostwriter, but in these cases they usually pay less up front, and instead, share profits from the sales of the eBook. How Much Can I Make as an eBook Ghostwriter? The range of incomes from ghostwriters is as varied as the types of eBooks that can be written. If you’re working with celebrities and highly visible professional clients, you can expect to make $10,000 and up; if you’re writing eBooks for a corporation, it may only be a few thousand dollars. According to Chron, “Pay scales for ghostwriters cover a range from several thousand to hundreds of thousands of dollars. A new writer can expect $7,000 to $9,000 depending on the length of the book -- generally 200 to 300 pages -- and the time needed to research and write it. A more experienced writer with a verifiable track record can earn $10,000 to $15,000…while a writer who's very experienced can demand $20,000 and up.” Regardless of your experience, you will need to put effort into marketing yourself as a ghostwriter, which can be difficult if previous clients require you to remain silent about the work you’ve done for them.
