Improve Your eBook Visibility, Part 3

Turgay Birand

December 24, 2013

This is the third part in a four-part series on creating enhanced visibility for your ebook through a variety of easy and cost-effective measures, thereby helping you increase sales in 2014. One of the most important things you can do to help enhance your ebook visibility is to build and maintain a website that can function as a sales funnel, ultimately increasing your ebook sales. There are four major components in a good website. We recommend using WordPress to create your website, as much of the design work can be done by simply installing a good theme.
  1. Navigation. Whether you use custom menus or tabbed navigation, make sure you make it easy for people to explore your website. You should have a page about the book, one about the author, and one for your blog. Your social media links should be visible on every page, and each page should include a link that allows visitors to purchase your book.
  2. Clean Design. Some websites tend to be too busy; don’t clutter your site. You have about three seconds to grab a visitor’s attention, so keep that in mind as you develop your website. Make sure your page loads quickly, and make sure that the images you use are web-sized so that they don’t take forever to load.
  3. Speaking of Images. You need images on your website to make it visually engaging. Your bio page should include a picture of you – the successful indie author. Your ebook page should include, at minimum, a picture of the cover of the ebook and maybe a snapshot of an excerpt. Your home page should have an image. The image can be from the ebook or it can be something that symbolizes you as an author or your ebook.
  4. Video. If your theme supports video, a short video on your home page can quickly grab and keep readers on your website. Even a simple video of you welcoming them and thanking them for visiting your site can be helpful.
In the final installment of our four-part series on ebook visibility, we’ll discuss tools and tips that can help you get your ebook noticed.
